Vision therapy or vision rehabilitation. It’s teaching a patient how to use their eyes together more efficiently or how to use the incoming visual information to make things easier for them in their day-to-day. The main people I’d say we work with are those struggling to learn how to read, which is harder than it should be, or those connections aren’t happening as fast as they should, and a lot of post-concussion or brain injuries. Again, systems that might have been working just fine, things are no longer doing that.

My son, he was, I believe, about 10 years old when we first came to Kamloops Vision Eye Therapy. He had a lot of trouble reading. He was quite far behind in reading. He struggled when he was reading. He wouldn’t be able to focus quite on the words. They would bounce around.
[00:00:56.04] – Lucas
I think it was about grade five. I had a little trouble reading. It was really hard for me. I remember all the other kids were above my reading level. When I first came here, we had to do some activities at home to open my eyes, but most of them were here. It definitely did help me a lot. I really noticed I could read words. They weren’t blurry. I could actually understand them now. It just really helped my life.
[00:01:20.11] – Nicki
He went from being really far behind to one of the top in the class of being able to read because he can finally see the words properly now.
[00:01:29.14] – Lyra
When I first came into here, I was excited and a little nervous, but then they really started to help me and I could feel my eyes changing. When I went back to school, I would still sit in the back and I could see the whiteboard properly.

In theory, vision therapy is for anybody. We can take any system and have it work a little bit better.

I was in a motor vehicle accident. I hit my head pretty good because when I first came here, everything was a fog. It was like being in a UFC fight, 12 rounds, and I didn’t block a shot. But now I’m confident, too, is the main thing I’m really holding on to. It was hard in the beginning, but where I’m at with these ladies now, they make me feel part of something, and I guess it’s been helpful for me.
[00:02:23.23] – Judy
I came to Kamloops Vision Therapy after I was referred by an eye doctor here in Salmon Arm. I had been having problems with my vision for many years, and I would have difficulty. Sometimes I would be taking my glasses off, putting my glasses on, trying to get the right focus, and it just didn’t seem to be happening. Some of the changes I noticed while I was coming here were very subtle, and I realized when we were doing the different exercises that I could do things differently than I had.

As a physiotherapist, our scope is very orthopedic-driven. Once a patient has had a concussion, there’s multiple things that are affected, multiple systems that are affected after a concussion, so when we see these patients that we suspect might have a strong vision component as part of their injury, that’s when we can refer for vision therapy.
[00:03:20.23] – Tamsyn Sitler
My favourite thing about living in Kamloops is that even though it’s a decent-size city, it feels small. It really does feel like a community from top to bottom. It’s easy to get… I feel like I get to know my patients on a level I might not have in a different place.
Vision is more than 20/20.
Eyesight measures how small you can read letters on an eye chart. Vision, however, involves using your sight to interpret and interact with the world. Even with 20/20 eyesight, your eyes may not work well together, causing discomfort and confusion.
Optometric Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation (VT) uses the science of neuroplasticity to establish new neural pathways to improve reduced visual skills or advance current visual performance. Vision therapy and neuro-rehabilitation is a prescribed program of visual-based activities specific to a particular person’s needs, directed by an optometrist and facilitated by an optometrist or vision therapist.

What is vision therapy?
Vision Therapy is a customized program designed to correct and improve visual skills and processing. Unlike primary eye care, which typically focuses on prescribing lenses to correct vision, Vision Therapy involves a series of exercises and activities that strengthen the visual system, train the eyes and brain to work together more effectively, and improve how the brain processes visual information.
Left untreated, vision problems can lead to ongoing discomfort and even worsen over time. You might find yourself avoiding activities you love, struggling at work, or feeling frustrated by persistent vision-related issues. It’s more than just an inconvenience – it’s a barrier to living your life to the fullest.
Vision Therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Binocular Vision Dysfunction
- Convergence Insufficiency
- Eye tracking disorders
- Strabismus and Amblyopia (“Lazy Eye”)
- Visual Perceptual Disorders
- Visual difficulties Post- Concussion
Binocular Vision Dysfunction
Seeing 20/20 is only part of what makes clear and comfortable vision. We must also move our eyes in a coordinated way to follow or fixate a target as well as keeping it single, while simultaneously adjusting our focus to keep things clear. In addition to all these, we must also integrate all of this with body posture and movements. If all of these moving parts are not working together efficiently, discomfort can result, particularly with tasks done up close, such as reading or computer work. Symptoms of those with binocular vision dysfunction include:
- Blurred vision
- Double vision
- Eye strain or fatigue
- Headaches
- Shaking of words or words running together on the page
- Difficulty reading for long periods of time
- Skipping and repeating lines and losing place on the page
- Burning, itchy, watery eyes

What Clients Have to Say.
Would definitely recommend, Quick and easy, and everyone there is very nice
Dr.Sitler is an excellent optometrist. She always explains in simple terms what is happening and is very personable. Would highly recommend her to all of my friends.
Dr Sitler takes the time to be really present to her clients. Her work is knowledgeable and thorough. Every one in the office is kind, and helpful to make sure questions are answered and needs taken care of.
Dr.Sitler is calm, efficient, personable and thorough. She saw my 5 year old daughter and myself. This was the best experience in an optometrist office I have ever had.
As someone who gets nervous, she was very calm and reassuring and made the whole appointment very easy and stress free. Would very much recommend to anyone!
We had a great experience from booking our appointments, to having a thorough, well explained eye exam and then the ease of payment when using our benefit plans. Highly recommend 😀
Punctual, caring, sensitive, knowledgeable! The go-to for my whole families' eye care needs.
Great visit. Felt everything was explained well to me. I had a 3 year old with me and no one seemed to mind that he came for my visit. Staff seemed great with children.
The office is a little tucked away and might be hard to find at first, but once you're in the staff is amazing! The receptionist his bright, cheery, and friendly. The atmosphere is highly professional, and Dr. Sitler is highly knowledgeable. She's diligent, concerned for her patients, and always does her best to help you. It's one of the best optometrist experiences I've had!
Love dr Sitler and her team, they’re all a delight to be around and very supportive!
Kamloops vision therapy is client centred, inclusive to the needs of the child. I appreciate their flexibility and strongly recommend their services.
Kamloops Vision Therapy Optometry is the best place to take kids! We have been seeing Dr Sitler for several years now and she has always been thorough and knowledgeable with both of my kids, but especially attentive with my complex child. She is always willing to see her, if and when I have concerns, which happens regularly. She is incredibly patient with kids who struggle to comply when they are experiencing anxiety, and she actually sets aside enough time to do proper exams on children who may need some extra time and encouragement to make it through their appointment (which was not our experience at two other popular optometry clinics in town). I highly recommend Kamloops Vision Therapy Optometry! Thank you KVTO!!
Dr. Sitler was very professional and personable. I would definitely recommend her to new patients.
Friendly and knowledge. I was greeted with kindness and was treated with utmost respect. I left feeling positive thank you all at kamloops vision therapy optometrist
The office is quite accommodating and the DR. is very thorough. I did not do the therapy part, so I can't comment on that. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and patient. Thank you!
My preschool aged child recently saw Dr Sitler for an exam. She was extremely thorough, great at engaging with my child, and explaining findings to myself. As someone who was previously employed at an optometry office, I was very impressed! Highly recommend Dr Sitler - especially if you have specific vision concerns.
Best eye care I have ever had. Very though and patient. Everything explained as my vision has been changing. Wonderful staff! I have recommended to many people. I know I am in good hands.
wow - have not had our appointment yet, but the receptionist was so thorough, professional, and lovely to deal with :)
Tamsyn is very thorough, approachable, and efficient. She doesn’t have a retail component to her practice, so there’s no pressure to purchase anything. I’m happy she’s made Kamloops her home.
Husband said he got into exam quick, all staff and Doctor were excellent. Nice!
I had full eye exam today. First one in many years. Was excellent experience.
Dr.Sitler and staff have been extremely helpful and knowledgeable in my time spent at Kamloops vision therapy optometry, it’s wonderful to have people who care about their clients and work diligently to improve your own personal vision concerns!
The Optometrist was caring, personable, and knowledgeable; took a lot of extra time with me to make sure I had the right prescription. I did not have this experience with my last optometrist. I felt taken care of and my needs were addressed seriously.
I'm happy to give five stars to continue the perfect google rating that this business has. I guess it's pretty much the same framework (no pun intended) in getting an eye exam wherever you go...you know same tests, equipment etc. But here, with Dr. Sitler, it was different. It seemed....genuine. For example, there isn't a section that is full of prescription eyewear to sell - making one feel that well, hey, since you're here, let's get some more money from you and sell some expensive prescription eyeglasses. Nope, not here. Instead you get quality time (I was with the doctor for well over an hour, never once feeling rushed out the door). And in my exam, along with all the 'usual' kinds of equipment and testing, there were a few other extra ones that I hadn't had before. I appreciate that Dr. Sitler goes the extra mile to really figure out your eyes. Did I mention not being rushed?? Actually there were a couple times that I thought to myself, she is so genuine and earnest, and NICE, that it felt like I was having a chat with a friend. But a professional kind of friend if that makes sense. I went here because I had a not-so-great experience somewhere else and wanted to get a second opinion. I am so glad that I did! The other place just wanted to zap my pupil with a laser without fully diagnosing that I really even needed it! (turns out that I don't at this time, which is what my gut feeling was too). A couple more things. My appointment was at the end of the day, but I still had a great experience! Also, there is a parking lot (free) on the side of the building which is always a bonus. Oh and the receptionist was wonderful too!
Dr Sitler and the whole staff are great! Knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. Thanks!
Friendly- eye exam was conducted as usual but with some helpful advice. I would definitely recommend Kamloops Vision Therapy Optometry
Dr. Sitler is professional, thorough, friendly, informative, and such a lovely person. Her staff are helpful and friendly. You feel comfortable and well cared for from the moment you enter the office. I highly recommend Dr. Sitler for both vision therapy treatment and optometry services.
KVTO has been excellent and very accommodating every step of the process!!!
My appointment at Kamloops Vision Therapy was very welcoming right from the receptionist to all staff involved. Dr. Sitler was very thorough with her examination and explained things in great detail. She was very congenial and a good conversationalist. No hesitations at all in recommending her to anyone.Thank you Dr. Sitler. Judy Lintott
All the staff were excellent and Dr. Sitler was excellent and very throughly.
Such a nice comfortable experience! I would recommend to all! No pressure or pain and very professional!
Dr.Sitler is the only one I will trust with my eyes. She is very thorough and takes her time to explain the whole process. My prescription is complicated. With her help as well as everyone in the office I feel like I will improve with my eye issues.
The DR. Was Absolutely amazing and compassionate, they know what they are doing, I loved the vision therapy
It's always a positive experience visiting Kamloops Vision Therapy. Dr. Sitler is very thorough performing examinations and put my mind at ease by explaining the possible cause for my recent issue which ended up being very common and minor. Chantel, the receptionist, scheduled an appointment the very same day when phoning in to describe the problem with my eye. Thank you Chantel.
We love Dr. Sitler she cares greatly about her profession and we are so happy to be seeing her again <3
She does really well at explaining the vision problem and how to remedy it. Very happy with the service so far.

Dr Sitler is very thorough, she really listens and explains the results of the various tests she performs.
My 4 year old was very nervous and they did an amazing job with checking his eyes.
